Start your maritime training on the water! In the 3-year apprenticeship as a harbor boatman (Hafenschiffer), you'll learn vessel navigation, towing operations, cargo handling, and marine construction in Hamburg Harbor. We train you hands-on – on board from day one with full cost coverage and strong takeover opportunities.
Requirements:
- Secondary school diploma or higher
- Passion for ships, maritime technology, and harbor operations
- Team spirit, reliability, and eagerness to learn
- Swimming ability (proof required)
- Medical fitness for maritime service
You take the helm of our tugboats, push boats, and barges across Hamburg Harbor, the Norderelbe, and surrounding waterways. From complex barge transport and towing assistance to marine construction logistics – you hold nautical responsibility for vessel, crew, and towage.
Requirements:
- Valid Skipper License A (A-Patent / Hamburg Harbor Patent / Rhine Patent)
- Multiple years of experience operating tugs, push boats, or barges in tidal waters
- VHF marine radio certificate (UBI)
- Independent, forward-looking, and safety-conscious work approach
- Hanseatic reliability and dedicated team player spirit
